About this deal

The film starts off with a voiced-over recap of what happened across the globe between 2013 and 2020. The disc presents a native 3840 x 2160p resolution image in the film's original theatrical aspect ratio of widescreen 2. When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end.

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray features a gorgeous Dolby Vision presentation, an awesome Dolby Atmos soundtrack, and a small set of supplements, making the overall package Worth A Look for hardened fans. Littered throughout the movie are scenes of the characters interacting with bright neon-glowing hologram-like user interfaces. However, as is often the case, the Dolby Vision also comes with several blatant instances of aliasing along the sharpest edges, keeping the presentation grounded from earning reference-quality marks. The Jaegers, of course, are stunning to behold in Dolby Vision, such as the polished deep red of Guardian Bravo, the burnished cobalt shade of Gypsy Avenger, the beautiful pearlescent cerulean of November Ajax or the shiny metalized orange of Saber Athena. For the week that ended on June 23rd, Universal Studios Home Entertainment's Pacific Rim: Uprising debuted at the top spot on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts.Unfortunately, the low-end surprisingly is not as aggressive or earth-shattering as expected, especially when compared to the first movie. Pacific Rim remains a spectacular demo title which enjoys an upgrade for its 4K release in terms of full 3D immersive HD audio courtesy of a Dolby Atmos track, itself founded upon an already reference Dolby TrueHD 7. It's really the HDR, WCG and Dolby Vision that make all the difference, however, with even the opening Universal banner and ensuing Studio credits having imaginative stylisation that lends itself particularly well towards the theme of enjoying vividly colourful future tech in all its radiant glory, something furthered by all the HUDs and holographic readouts, and even the damn exit signs. Dolby Vision is the best version and even though the range itself is not expanded, there are all the highlight details from SDR version.
